Greg, Thanks for the recipe. I just planted my Tokyo white turnips and used corrugated cardboard between the rows for weed suppression, thanks for the idea! If you google it, you will find that what you are calling the bulbil is indeed the flower, and the little clones of bulbs are the bulbils...

Yes Greg, that proves exactly what I said... I was referring to your statement "Hard-neck garlic send up a stalk in late spring that develops a “bulbil” at the end. The bulbil seems like a flower, but it’s better described as a cluster of tiny clones of the parent plant. No pollination is required for each bulbil segment to become a new plant." It is the "Segment" that is the Bulbil...The sheath type thing at the end of the scape, I believe IIRC, is the Sepals of the compound flower. BTW not all Hardnecks produce exclusively Bulbils, some produce a combination of bulbils and true flowers that do produce seed...
I agree, this is a great article. I made this garlic scape pesto last year and froze little jars in it. It's great in cooking really adds good a garlic flavor.
Great podcast/article. It's my first year growing garlic (planted last fall) so I will be trying out this recipe. Thank you. I really like the idea of a recipe a month. Sometimes I look at everything I am growing and scream "WHY?!" LOL So it's nice to have some fresh recipes to try.
