The world of permaculture is replete with a smorgasbord of gurus, all offering courses (for money) that will teach you the secrets of this approach to gardening... but you don't need them.
I don't think I need a course. I think it is really funny to see folks advertising "Master Classes". I watch the same youtubers on a regular basis. I may pick up something useful or something worth thinking about. I probably watch them for the vicarious "large garden" experience, since I have a rather small one. I've read a lot of books, done a bit of gardening for several years. I don't need a formal course to get basics down. and I can't imagine it is worth the money to someone new either.
Great article Greg, I agree with you. To be fair, I sense that most people selling courses are doing so because they want to focus on permaculture full time and courses are one way of funding that type of career…meaning their hearts are in the right place rather than having the profit motive first. Anyway, I appreciate your presentation style and how you aren’t afraid to take a contrarian view!
I don't think I made any statements or judgements in the article regarding the motivations of these people. Personally I think that varies from individual to individual - from people such as those you have described, to utter charlatans selling whatever people will buy (these latter ones usually make a lot of health claims... a topic that they are even less qualified to discuss).
Yes, I didn’t mean to imply you were questioning anyone’s motivation but reading my comment again it does sound that way. It was only meant as my own observation.

Enjoyed the philosophical discussion!
Thanks Anne :)
